Trucking HR Canada’s Youth with Drive committee holds first meeting
TORONTO, Ont. –Trucking HR Canada recently held its first Youth with Drive Advisory Committee meeting, where a group that includes a mix of age groups and some of the trucking industry’s youngest leaders helped develop a plan to raise awareness about the opportunities in trucking among young people and employers alike, and increase their participation in the industry.
According to Trucking HR Canada, millennials are now the largest cohort in the Canadian workforce, yet are still largely under-represented in the trucking industry. A
“Trucking employers from across the country are working with us and providing guidance as we develop a plan, to help start reversing this trend”, said Angela Splinter, CEO of Trucking HR Canada.
The Youth with Drive Advisory Committeewas put together to provide guidance and input as we develop a national youth employment strategy. Following further research into young peoples’ current representation across the industry, the strategy will: aim to raise awareness among younger generations of the various career opportunities that exist in the trucking industry; research and share recruitment and retention best practices geared to younger workers; and, develop practical tools for employers.
